Safety and Site Information

Is it safe to meet people online?

Yes, it is now commonplace for people to meet in person after meeting online. We use specific tools. But it is up to you to make it safe!

But remember to follow these common sense rules before meeting someone new for the first time:

  1. Tell someone else where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you’ll be back.
  2. Meet in a public place.
  3. Protect your real identity until you can trust your new friend.
  4. Don’t let your new friend know where you live or work until you have built a trusting relationship.

What do I do if someone is spamming me or bugging me?

Rules and Safety Guidelines for Meeting New Friends

  • Protect your identity
  • Don’t use your real name on Friendometry, use a nickname for your username.
  • Protect your identity until you can trust your new connection. (After you have met in person, or verified each other’s identity through other means such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social network profiles if you can’t meet in person.)
  • Use the Friendometry messaging system until you can trust your new friend
  • Don’t exchange email addresses or phone numbers until you have verified each other’s identity via meeting in person or other means if this is not possible. Don’t respond to Friendometry members who try to break this rule immediately.
  • When you meet a new friend for the first time, use common sense safety precautions.
  • Let someone else know where you’ll be and when you expect to return home.
  • Meet in a public place where there will be other people around.
